Feed Supplementation to Freshwater Fish

For producing organic fish, the use of antibiotics and other therapeutic chemicals should be stopped throughout different production stages. Other alternative methodology has to be found to protect the cultured fish from bacterial diseases and environmental pollution that may be happened in aquatic ecosystems. Feed supplementation is a good alternative methodology should be used for fish production. However, feed supplements are so important for enhancing fish growth, innate immunity, and their resistance against the environmental stress. They may be probiotics, prebiotics, polysacchrides, organic acids, medicinal herbs, and so on. This book summarized many research attempts to evaluate many feed supplements and their role in improving fish performance, feed utilization, health, innate immunity, resistance against environmental pollution.

Dr. Mohsen Abdel-Tawwab is aquaculture professor in Department of Fish Biology and Ecology, CLAR, Egypt. He leads efforts to address many scientific issues pertaining to the development of aquaculture resources, reducing the toxicological impacts of pollutants on the cultured fish, and improving the fish environment via using immuno-stimulants.
